What HandCarry does

HandCarry connects two kinds of people. A buyer wants something delivered from another city or another country. It might be a product that is not sold where they live, or an item they already own that needs to reach someone. A traveler is already making that journey and has spare luggage space. The buyer posts what they need, and the traveler offers to carry it. The two agree a price inside the app, and the traveler earns a commission on a trip they were taking anyway.

One HandCarry account does both jobs. You can post a delivery request or carry someone else's item for a commission. Nothing needs to be set up twice.

The two kinds of delivery

Every request is one of two types. The type cannot be changed once the request is posted.

  • Buy & Deliver. The traveler buys the item at the source as requested by the buyer, uploads the receipt for the buyer's record, and brings it to you. Buyer pay the item cost, the traveler's commission and the platform fee.
  • Pick Up & Deliver. Buyer already own the item. The traveler collects it, carries it and hands it over. Buyer pays the commission and the platform fee. There is no item cost.

What is the difference between Buy & Deliver and Pick Up & Deliver? explains which one to choose.

An order from start to finish

  1. Someone posts. A buyer posts a delivery request with the route, the delivery dates and the commission they are offering. A traveler publishes a trip with their route, dates and spare capacity. Either side can find the other. Buyers browse trips under Find Travelers, and travelers browse requests under Delivery Requests.
  2. You talk and agree terms. A conversation opens between the two of you. Either side sends a proposal with the price breakdown, and the other accepts or counters. An unanswered proposal expires after 72 hours.
  3. The buyer pays. Accepting a proposal creates the order and takes the buyer straight to payment. The buyer has 24 hours to pay by card. If the window closes unpaid, the order expires and nothing is charged. Both people need a verified identity by this point.
  4. The money is held. HandCarry charges the full amount and holds it securely until the delivery is confirmed. The traveler is never paid before you confirm, and you are never asked to pay the traveler directly.
  5. The traveler buys or collects. On a Buy & Deliver order, the traveler buys the item before a deadline shown on the order page, then uploads the receipt and the real price paid. If the item costs more than estimated, the traveler asks you to approve a price increase first. On a Pick Up & Deliver order, the traveler marks the item collected.
  6. Handover. When the item changes hands, the buyer shares a 6-digit handover code that only they can see. The traveler enters it, and the delivery is confirmed on the spot. If you cannot meet, the traveler can mark the delivery done with a reason. You then have 5 days to confirm or raise a problem before the order confirms itself.
  7. The traveler is paid. Confirmation fixes the traveler's earnings. A clearing period of 7 days runs before the payout can be withdrawn to the traveler's payout account.
  8. Reviews. After confirmation, both sides have 14 days to leave a review. Reviews are revealed at the same time, so neither person can react to what the other wrote.

What protects both sides

  • The Payment Hold. Your payment sits with HandCarry, not with the traveler, until you confirm the delivery.
  • Verification. Everyone verifies an email address and a phone number before posting, messaging or proposing, and verifies their identity before money moves.
  • Proof. On a Buy & Deliver order, the receipt and the real price are on the order page before the item is carried.
  • The handover code. A correct code proves the two of you met. That is the strongest evidence there is if a disagreement follows.
  • Disputes. If something goes wrong, either side can open a dispute from the order page while the order is active. The buyer can still open one for a period after confirmation.

What it costs

The buyer pays the platform fee on top of the traveler's earnings. The fee is 9% of the traveler's payout, with a minimum of $20 per order. The traveler pays no fee. The Pricing page always shows the live rate with worked examples.
